UK-based AI infrastructure company Nscale revealed former OpenAI CEO of AGI Deployment Fidji Simo ( pictured ) has joined its board of directors as the company gears up for a planned IPO . The appointment is effective immediately. Simo led the business and product teams responsible for bringing OpenAI’s research to users. CNBC reported she stepped down from the leadership role in July 2026, citing a chronic illness in a post on X. Simo continues to serve as a part-time advisor to OpenAI. Prior to the ChatGPT maker, Simo was chair and CEO of Instacart. She also spent a decade at Meta Platforms where she serve as head of Facebook apps. Simo brings more than 20 years of experience building and scaling consumer technology products across social, commerce, and AI to her board position, according to Nscale. “Fidji is one of the most accomplished product leaders in tech, having built products used by billions of people around the world,” stated Josh Payne, founder and CEO of Nscale. Simo stated she is excited to join Nscale’s board as it scales the infrastructure “that will power the next generation of AI’. Her appointment follows the additions of former Meta COO Sheryl Sandberg, ex Yahoo president Susan Decker, and Nick Clegg , former president of global affairs at Meta, to the Nscale board .
