Scolese previously served as NASA’s chief engineer and director of Goddard Space Flight Center. **Karen St. Germain.** Helped shape NASA’s Earth science enterprise through senior leadership roles overseeing missions, research and the use of satellite observations to better understand Earth’s climate and environment. **Coyote Smith.** A longtime military space leader and educator whose career has helped shape thinking about spacepower, national security space strategy and the development of the next generation of space professionals. * * * ### **International Collaboration** _Recognizing partnerships that bring together organizations and nations to advance space exploration, science and commerce._ **Clay Mowry.** Now chief executive of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), he has worked across industry, government and professional organizations to build connections within an increasingly international and multidisciplinary space community. **Loft Orbital–Marlan Space.** U.S.-French and Emirati capabilities joined in a major international space initiative, including plans for the 50-satellite Altair-Next Gen constellation combining Earth observation, onboard computing and artificial intelligence. **K2 Space–SES.** Paired K2 Space’s high-power satellite platforms with SES’s software-defined payloads for meoSphere, a next-generation MEO network beginning with 28 spacecraft and designed to serve commercial and defense customers. **Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope.** Brought together NASA, ESA, JAXA, France’s CNES, Germany’s Max Planck Institute for Astronomy and institutions across the scientific community to develop a next-generation observatory for studying dark energy, exoplanets and the evolution of the universe. Roman launched Aug. 30, beginning a new chapter in international space science. **SMILE.** The Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer brought ESA and the Chinese Academy of Sciences together for the first mission jointly designed, implemented, launched and operated by Europe and China. The spacecraft launched May 19 to study the interaction between the solar wind and Earth’s magnetosphere. * * * ### **Emerging Space Company** _Recognizing new or rapidly growing companies driving innovation and opening new markets in the space economy._ **Beno?t Deper / Aerospacelab.** Built Aerospacelab into a rapidly expanding European satellite manufacturer and operator, pursuing vertically integrated spacecraft production and constellation development from Europe and the United States. **Lux Aeterna.** Emerged from stealth with plans to develop reusable satellites capable of returning payloads to Earth, raising $10 million in 2026 as it works toward its first reentry demonstration mission. **Katalyst Space Technologies.** Pushed commercial satellite servicing into new territory with LINK, a rapidly developed robotic spacecraft sent to attempt the rescue of NASA’s Swift observatory, while expanding into GEO servicing, deorbiting and other robotic space operations. **Skyroot Aerospace.** Advanced India’s growing private launch sector with Vikram-1, India’s first privately developed orbital-class launch vehicle. * * * ### **Innovative Technology** _Recognizing technologies that push the boundaries of engineering and create new capabilities for space operations._ **Cailabs.** Advanced laser communications from individual optical ground stations toward shared infrastructure, launching an optical-ground-station-as-a-service model with plans for an international network of roughly 15 stations. **D-Orbit.** Continued expanding the capabilities of its ION orbital transfer vehicle beyond satellite deployment into hosted payloads, orbital transportation, cloud computing and other in-space logistics services. **Xona Space Systems.** Advanced a commercial alternative to traditional GPS with Pulsar, a low Earth orbit positioning, navigation and timing architecture designed to provide more precise, resilient navigation services from a new generation of satellites. * * * ### **Individual Achievement** _Recognizing individuals whose leadership and innovation have set new benchmarks for excellence and inspired progress across the space community._ **Steve Altemus, Intuitive Machines.** Continued expanding Intuitive Machines from lunar transportation into a broader space infrastructure company, including the $800 million acquisition of Lanteris Space Systems and investments in communications, navigation and data services. **Ian Cinnamon, Apex.** Helped establish a new model for satellite manufacturing at Apex, emphasizing standardized spacecraft platforms, faster production and an approach designed to bring mass-production economics to the satellite industry. **Rafal Modrzewski, ICEYE.** Led ICEYE’s continued expansion of the world’s largest commercial synthetic aperture radar satellite fleet, combining commercial services with increasingly important sovereign intelligence capabilities for governments around the world. **Shey Sabripour, CesiumAstro.** Built CesiumAstro around advanced active phased-array communications technology, helping move high-throughput, software-defined connectivity from a promising technology toward operational space systems. * * * ### **Deal of the Year** _Recognizing transactions and investments that reshape markets, create new competitors or alter the trajectory of the space industry._ **AE Industrial Partners–Rocketdyne.** AE Industrial agreed to acquire a controlling interest in L3Harris’ Space Propulsion and Power Systems business, reviving the Rocketdyne name for a company whose propulsion heritage stretches back more than six decades. **EQT–Exolaunch.** EQT agreed to acquire Exolaunch, giving the previously self-funded German launch integration and deployment company its first outside investment and resources to expand internationally and develop new services. **Intuitive Machines–Lanteris Space Systems.** Intuitive Machines completed its $800 million acquisition of the former Maxar Space Systems, adding decades of satellite manufacturing experience as it seeks to become a vertically integrated space prime. **Katalyst Space Technologies–NASA.** NASA turned to Katalyst for an unusually rapid commercial servicing mission designed to rendezvous with and raise the orbit of the agency’s Swift observatory, testing a new model for acquiring time-sensitive in-space services. **SpaceX IPO.** SpaceX’s long-awaited public offering brought one of the world’s most valuable private companies to public markets in a landmark transaction for the commercial space sector. * * * ### **Space AI Breakthrough** _Recognizing advances that harness artificial intelligence and high-performance computing to transform spacecraft, space data and operations._ **Aethero.** Launched its Phobos spacecraft with an NVIDIA-powered edge-computing module, demonstrating a platform designed for continuous onboard processing and compute-as-a-service applications. **Alex Greenberg, Loft Orbital.** Helped drive Loft Orbital’s push to bring artificial intelligence and high-performance computing directly into orbit, enabling satellites to process increasingly large volumes of data before sending actionable information to the ground. **Starcloud.** Advanced the emerging concept of space-based data centers by developing high-performance orbital computing infrastructure intended to run increasingly demanding AI workloads in space. * * * ### **Commercial Space Achievement** _Recognizing companies and missions that have advanced commercial space capabilities and contributed to the growth of the space economy._ **ICEYE.** Expanded its synthetic aperture radar network while deploying a new generation of spacecraft capable of imagery down to 16-centimeter resolution and supporting both commercial and sovereign missions worldwide. **Impulse Space and Starfish Space.** Demonstrated autonomous rendezvous and proximity operations using Impulse Space’s Mira spacecraft and Starfish Space technology, advancing commercial capabilities needed for future satellite servicing and other in-space operations. **SEOPS and Exolaunch.** Expanded launch integration and rideshare services at a time of growing demand for alternatives in the commercial launch market, helping satellite operators secure access to orbit across a broader range of launch vehicles. * * * ### **Sustainability and Environmental Impact** _Recognizing leadership in using space technology to protect Earth and advancing more sustainable operations in space._ **Hydrosat.** Expanded the use of thermal infrared satellite data for water, agriculture and climate applications while unveiling Osiris, a next-generation constellation designed to combine 25-meter thermal imagery with broad-area coverage and daily revisit. **Space Data Association.** Continued bringing satellite operators together to share operational data and promote collision avoidance, responsible operations and sustainable use of increasingly congested orbital environments. **Vera C. Rubin Observatory.** Began issuing real-time scientific alerts in February, creating a system expected to eventually generate millions of alerts each night about changing objects and events ranging from asteroids to supernovae. * * * ### **Civil Space Achievement** _Celebrating breakthroughs in exploration, science and public-sector space missions._ **Artemis 2 Team.** Returned astronauts to the vicinity of the moon for the first time in more than half a century, carrying NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen on a nearly 10-day flight around the moon aboard Orion.
